The latest League of Legends patch, 26.19, has arrived, and it's setting the stage for the upcoming World Championship. Riot Games has rolled out a series of changes aimed at diversifying the pro meta while also addressing outliers in solo queue. From champion buffs and nerfs to item adjustments, this patch is all about fine-tuning the game before the biggest tournament of the year. Additionally, Riot provided an update on the highly anticipated Team Voice feature, which has been delayed to ensure quality.
Worlds-Focused Champion Changes
With the Worlds patch just around the corner, Riot is making targeted adjustments to champions who could become fringe picks at the tournament. The goal is to add variety without creating disruptive power spikes. Several champions are receiving buffs to make them more viable, while a few meta staples are being toned down.
- Aatrox: After indirect nerfs from Sundered Sky changes, Aatrox is getting a bump to his W cooldown and E healing to remain a world-ending threat.
- Aphelios: The hypercarry is receiving buffs to multiple weapons, including Calibrum, Severum, Gravitum, Infernum, and Crescendum, to encourage him to step out of his comfort zone.
- Aurora: Despite no changes since last year, Aurora has fallen off due to Rocketbelt nerfs. She's getting increased waveclear and ultimate duration.
- Draven: With bot lane gold income up from role quests, Draven's Adoration stacks are less impactful. He's getting a small base AD buff to help his early game.
- Elise: AP junglers like Elise have struggled. She's receiving buffs to her passive on-hit damage and W attack speed for faster clears.
- Fiora: The Grand Duelist is getting increased health growth and ultimate healing to reward successful duels.
- Kha'Zix: With the jungle meta shifting, Kha'Zix is getting buffs to his weaker evolutions, including passive damage, W slow duration, and E range.
- Lillia: To help her durability and playmaking, Lillia is getting base armor and a longer sleep duration on her ultimate.
- Lucian: Riot is rebalancing his passive and Q to strike a balance between mid and bot lane roles.
- Master Yi: The Ability Haste penalty on his Q cooldown refund is being removed, with minimal impact on Summoner's Rift but noticeable in other modes.
- Nasus: To keep him in check, Nasus is getting reduced Q bonus damage, making him more vulnerable early.
- Nocturne: His ultimate cooldown is being increased to reduce map presence and dueling power.
- Poppy: Her jungle clear is being toned down to reduce her flex potential.
- Rumble: His passive attack speed is being adjusted to be less elite-skewed, with compensation for jungle Rumble.
- Ryze: The archmage is getting armor growth buffs but reduced Q flux bonus damage and higher E mana cost to restrain his pro play dominance.
- Vi: After being a meta staple, Vi is getting reduced base AD, AD growth, and shield to make her a riskier pick.
- Volibear: Both AD and AP builds are getting buffs, with increased attack speed per stack and bonus AD scaling on his passive.
Item Adjustments: World Atlas and Runic Compass
Melee supports have been dominating through roaming and all-ins, but their sustained laning has been weak. To address this, Riot is shifting flat health to health regeneration on World Atlas and Runic Compass. This change benefits melee supports more due to their higher base health regen, allowing them to stay in lane longer and trade more effectively.
Team Voice Rollout Delayed
Riot also shared an update on Team Voice, the planned expansion of party voice chat to include all teammates. Originally slated for Patch 26.20 in North America and Oceania, the feature has been postponed to ensure it meets quality standards. No new target patch has been announced, but Riot is prioritizing ironing out issues as efficiently as possible. This is a long-awaited feature, and the team wants to get it right.
Top Lane Role Quest and Teleport
Systemically, the top lane role quest has been successful in freeing up top laners to skip Teleport. Riot believes increasing their map influence through the spell—whether taken from the start or through the quest—is a fair way to give the role more power. This change aims to make top lane more impactful without disrupting the overall game balance.
Looking Ahead to Worlds
With these changes, Riot is setting the stage for a diverse and exciting World Championship. The buffs to fringe picks and nerfs to meta outliers should create more strategic variety in draft phases. Players and fans alike will be watching closely to see how these adjustments shape the tournament meta. Patch 26.19 is live now, so be sure to test out the changes in your solo queue games.
