Patch 1.3.1 has arrived in 2XKO, bringing the Lady of Luminosity herself, Lux, into the roster. Alongside her debut, the update introduces the Ultimate Bundle, voice chat for larger private lobbies, and the final major balance adjustments before the game shifts focus to long-term support. Ranked lobbies and the Battle Pass have been retired to streamline the experience. In a recent developer sit-down, the team shared how Lux came together—and why her development was so smooth that she launched months ahead of schedule.
A Champion Born from Collaboration
Champion creation in 2XKO begins with a phase called DNA, where Design, Narrative, and Art teams huddle together to define the core identity of a fighter. For Lux, this was the first time the team tried a fully joint DNA process, and it paid off. “It was the first time we tried a joint DNA process where the whole pod huddled together for a few weeks to really go deep on everything the champ could be,” says producer Kooswithak. Concept artist Knight “arucelli” Zhang sketched the first concept on her literal first day, and the wing headband stuck. The team generated multiple paper kits, debating how to manifest light in a fighting game while staying true to Lux’s personality.
A Fresh Look for a Familiar Face
2XKO’s Lux is older and wiser after leaving Demacia, radiating positivity as a traveling adventurer rather than a Crownguard. “She looks much more like a travelling adventurer than a Crownguard,” Zhang quips. “Also, we needed Lux to feel distinctly Demacian as our only representation from that region. I spent many months after finishing her concept laying in bed, fearful that I had put too many wings on her.” The result is a casual, approachable design that still honors her roots.
Beginner-Friendly by Design
As the 16th champion, Lux could have introduced complex new mechanics, but the team opted for accessibility. She shares traits with shoto-style characters, including a fireball and an invincible uppercut, making her familiar to fighting game veterans while welcoming to newcomers. Several ideas were left on the cutting room floor to keep her kit focused:
- A multi-hitting boomerang that granted meter, similar to her Super Assist.
- Chargeable, armored versions of her S2 wand attacks, some of which could be dash-canceled.
- Ways for her to refract light through her S2 Super prism.
Despite these cuts, Lux brings plenty of brightness to any team composition, and the team hopes players enjoy exploring her potential.
