Riot Games has unveiled the full details for Teamfight Tactics’ upcoming set, Enchanted Wilds, promising a mystical forest filled with new traits, champions, and strategic depth. From the high-risk essence gathering of Coven to the positioning puzzle of Elderwood, this set is packed with fresh mechanics. Let’s dive into the key traits and champions you’ll encounter when the set goes live on August 26th.

Coven: Essence Gathering with a Twist

Coven is a high-risk, high-reward trait that brings back essence gathering from past econ traits like Heartsteel, but with a key difference: you won’t be as punished for losing your loss streak. Here’s how it works:

Gather Essence by killing champions and losing player combat (more from losses).

At each Essence breakpoint, choose to convert Essence into rewards or continue gathering for a bigger payout.

Deeper commitment to Coven yields more Essence per combat, and fully embracing the trait provides loot every round.

Coven units include Camille, Caitlyn, Elise, Cassiopeia, Morgana, and Lux, offering flexibility in team comps. The deeper you go, the more rewards you unlock, making it a tempting vertical for risk-takers.

Elderwood: Summon Plants, Solve the Positioning Puzzle

Elderwood is a summon trait that rewards careful positioning. As you hit breakpoints (3|5|7|9|11), you gain placeable plants with unique roles:

(3) A Stonebark Tree and a Lifebloom.

(5) A second Stonebark Tree.

(7) The Deepwood Protector.

(9) Plants star up to 2-star.

(11) Plants star up to 3-star.

Plants gain Max Health and Ability Power based on Elderwood Star Level. The trait offers multiple build paths: reroll variants with Alistar (Brawler tank) or LeBlanc (who creates copies of allies on takedowns), or splash Inferno and Executioners for Ezreal. A personal favorite is the fast 8/9 comp using Spykin to supercharge Gnar.

Ivern, Greenfather: Cultivate Your Board

Ivern is a unique champion with the Greenfather trait, allowing him to create a biome by gathering seeds as he casts. After enough casts, he cultivates hexes that empower units:

Tree hexes: Grant % max Health (Forest, Bog, Mountainside).

Rock hexes: Grant Armor and Magic Resistance (Waterfall, Creek, Mountainside).

Water hexes: Grant Mana Regen (Bog, Waterfall, Creek).

Flower hexes: Grant Attack Speed (Forest, Creek, Mountainside).

Mushroom hexes: Grant Damage Amplification (Forest, Bog, Waterfall).

The God-Willow always plants last in the center of your board, offering a powerful but undisclosed effect. Ivern’s ability shields allies, and after six casts, his shields grant stacking Attack Speed. Build him with mana items like Shojin or Rageblade, and don’t ignore Jeweled Gauntlet for critical strikes.

5-Cost Tanks: Maokai and Taric

Addressing Set 17’s lack of legendary frontline, Enchanted Wilds introduces two powerful tanks:

Maokai: A HP tank whose damage scales with damage taken, thanks to his Old Growth trait granting max HP as enemies fall. He constantly lobs saplings.

Taric: Pairs with an ally via Emerald Aspect. When either drops below half health, he unleashes emerald energy, shielding allies within 3 hexes. His ability heals and empowers attacks with bonus magic damage.

Both are excellent splashes for any comp needing frontline durability.

Lux the Avatar Returns

Set 2 Lux is back as the Avatar, appearing in your shop with +2 for the Origin she represents. Each Origin adds a unique effect to her laser:

Blackthorn: Stuns targets for 1.25 seconds.

Blossom: 18% bonus damage to first target.

Coven: Reduces Armor and MR by 20.

Elderwood: Grants allies 5% max HP per cast.

Fae: Heals lowest % HP ally for 18% of ability damage.

Inferno: Restores 8 mana on takedown.

Lunar: Applies 12% Vulnerable for 6 seconds.

Primal: Gain 60% Attack Speed for 6 seconds after cast.

Solar: Weakens enemies by 12% damage dealt for 6 seconds.

On PBE, once you buy a Lux, other players can’t see her Origin variant. To find a different Origin, you must sell and reroll. Use her to splash an Origin into your board or chase vertical Prismatic.

Spykin and Blackthorn: More Depth

Spykin allows a Yordle (or Rammus) to ride the Big Furry Friend for massive HP and Attack Speed. Any champion can cosplay with a Sprykin Emblem. Blackthorn sacrifices an ally at combat start for stats, with a flip at (6) where the sacrifice survives and gains bonuses. Teemo’s ability can forage for special mushrooms, providing rerolls, Tactician Health, or XP.
