The cosmos is calling, and Teamfight Tactics is answering with Patch 17.5. After a heavier balance-focused micropatch last week, Riot Games is back with a smaller but impactful update that aims to lift champions who haven't found their zero-grav footing in the Space Gods set. Alongside these champion buffs, the patch delivers a sweeping pass on Augments—nerfing overperforming econ choices while boosting weaker combat options. Plus, Shepherd gets a well-deserved nerf to rein in its dominance in Fast 9 compositions. Let's dive into the details.
Champion and Trait Adjustments: Samira, Stargazer, and Shepherd Take Center Stage
The meta has been relatively stable early in 17.5, but bug fixes that went live just before the patch offset many intended changes. Riot is quickly following up with balance adjustments based on fresh data. Samira, a popular carry, is getting a mana nerf and a shorter crowd control duration to tone down her impact. Stargazer and Serpent traits see poison damage buffs, making them more viable for compositions that don't rely on Xayah as the primary carry. The Shepherd trait, which has become a cheap and consistent way for Fast 9 comps to stabilize mid-game, is getting nerfed across the board—reducing bonus AP per cast and shield values.
Samira: Mana changed from 0/60 to 0/65; CC duration reduced from 1.25s to 1s
Stargazer, Serpent: Poison damage increased from 18/35/50% to 25/45/60%
Shepherd: Summon bonus AP per cast reduced from 20 to 15; shield values adjusted (125/300/300 AP to 100/275/430 AP)
Space Groove (7): Bonus reduced from 15% to 10%
Two Tanky (Augment): Health bonus reduced from 500 to 450
Augment Overhaul: Econ Nerfs and Combat Buffs
One of the biggest focuses of Patch 17.5 is the Augment system. Overperforming econ Augments have been targeted with nerfs to reduce their dominance, while weaker combat Augments receive buffs to make them more appealing. This sweeping pass aims to create a healthier balance between economy and combat decisions. Players can expect more viable choices when selecting Augments, especially in the early game where econ options often dictated the flow of the match.
Pengu's Party Returns: A Blast from the Past
Pengu's Party is back for Patch 17.5 through 17.6, bringing iconic traits from past sets into the Space Gods world. This fan-favorite mode adds a layer of nostalgia and strategy as players queue up in Space Gods but encounter traits from previous sets. A bug fix ensures the "No Encounter" encounter is properly disabled, so the party runs smoothly. For first-time attendees, the mode offers a refreshing twist on the standard TFT experience.
God Blessings and Trait Tweaks: LeBlanc, Soraka, and Meeple Adjustments
Riot is also fine-tuning God Blessings and traits to improve balance. LeBlanc's Stage 3 Augments have been removed to prevent delayed game direction. Soraka's Shield Blessing gets a significant buff, making it more clickable in the right scenarios. Aurelion Sol's Low HP quest now grants 21 gold instead of 18, offering a better reward for risky plays. The Meeple trait sees power shifted from (5) to (7), encouraging players to invest in the higher-tier version for bigger bonuses. Arbiter and Space Groove traits also receive nerfs to curb their overperformance, with Arbiter's Leona and armor gains reduced.
LeBlanc: Stage 3 Augments removed
Soraka Shield Blessing: Increased from 450/550/650/800/800 to 500/600/700/800/900
Aurelion Sol Low HP Quest: Gold reward increased from 18 to 21
Meeple: Flat HP bonus adjusted (100/400/400/500 to 100/350/450/550); (10) Meeplord abilities buffed with higher damage and stun duration
Arbiter: Leona and armor gains reduced across the board
