Get ready for a patch that’s all about the buffs—and the biggest buff of all is Choncc himself. In TFT Patch 17.7, Riot Games brings back Set 16: Lore & Legends with a Choncc’s Treasure twist, delivering a dose of nostalgia and loot-fueled fun. But beyond our favorite pink dragon, this update is packed with buffs and adjustments across the board, with only one real nerf in sight. Vex joins the Stargazers, Shen changes the timeline, and mobile players on older devices will need to upgrade. Let’s dive into the details, courtesy of Rodger "Riot Prism" Caudill and Katie "Riot Ukime" Guo.
Choncc’s Lore & Legends: Set 16 Returns
Starting shortly after the patch deploys, Choncc’s Treasure takes over Set 16: Lore & Legends, bringing back the Unlockable mechanics that brought Runeterra to life. This limited-time mode lets you relive the roster and mechanics of Set 16 with Choncc’s signature loot system. If you missed the chance to explore Runeterra’s champions in their storybook forms, now’s your opportunity—complete with Choncc’s Treasure’s fun-fueled rewards.
Mobile Minimum Spec Changes
As TFT evolves, so do its system requirements. Starting July 22nd, support for 2GB and 3GB RAM mobile devices will end. Players on these devices will need to upgrade to continue playing TFT on mobile. This change ensures the game runs smoothly with future updates and new content.
Esports: Tactician’s Crown Crowns a New Champion
The Tactician’s Crown has concluded, and a new global champion has been crowned during Set 17. Congratulations to the winner (name redacted for spoiler-free VOD viewing) for earning the favor of the Space Gods and making history. Watch the finals VOD and follow @CompeteTFT on X for updates. Large Changes: Traits, Units, and Augments
This patch is all about buffs and adjustments, with only one true nerf. Here’s a breakdown of the key changes:
Traits Overhaul
Anima Squad: Breakpoint reduced from 3/6 to 3/5, with max rewards toned down (e.g., 2 5-costs + 1g instead of 5g). This makes the trait easier to activate early but less powerful at the top end.
Replicator (2): Spell effectiveness increased from 22/45% to 22/50%, making the 4-piece more viable.
Rogue: AD/AP scaling boosted from 12/25/40/55% to 12/25/45/60%, encouraging deeper investment.
Timebreaker (4): Nerfed slightly, but now easier to hit with Shen gaining the trait (see below).
Unit Buffs: From 1-Cost to 5-Cost
Every tier gets love in this patch, with a focus on making underperforming carries shine:
Ezreal (Tier 1): Takedowns per drone reduced from 8 to 7, speeding up his reroll fantasy.
Talon (Tier 1): Spell damage increased at 3 and 4 stars (e.g., 1000 to 1100 AD at 3-star).
Zoe (Tier 2): Secondary spell damage AP boosted from 34/51/77 to 36/54/88.
Urgot (Tier 3): Transformed passive damage increased from 225% to 250% AD, reviving his sword-heavy builds.
Diana (Tier 3): Shield and spell damage AP increased (shield: 475 to 515; spell: 145 to 160).
Master Yi (Tier 4): Mana reduced from 30/70 to 20/60, letting him enter Psi-State faster.
Graves (Tier 5): All upgrade costs reduced to 1 gold, making him less of an econ burden.
Shen (Tier 5): Gains the Timebreaker origin trait (and a new skin), boosting attack speed for higher carry potential.
Vex (Tier 5): Gains Stargazer trait (new skin), but spell damage nerfed from 140/210 to 130/195 AP to compensate.
Zed (Tier 5): Health penalty reduced from 33/45% to 33/40%, making clones tankier.
Augments: Buffs and One Nerf
The only true nerf in this patch is to Birthday Reunion, which now gives 1 gold instead of 3. Every other augment gets buffed to encourage fun, set-specific playstyles:
Bonk!: Base attack speed increased from 0.75 to 0.8.
Heart of the Swarm: Apex Primordian resists boosted to 75, mana improved, and passive sword damage increased to 75 AD/AP.
Stellar Combo: All hit damages increased (e.g., 2nd hit from 110-470 to 125-525 AD).
Termeepnal Velocity: Mana reduced from 10/55 to 10/50.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a bug where Slice of Life was granting its 5-cost at the wrong time.
