The final dedicated patch for Teamfight Tactics' Space Gods set is here, and it's packed with exciting twists to keep the space theme alive before Enchanted Wilds takes over. While Space Gods will remain playable for a limited time after the new set launches, patch 17.9 is the last update focused solely on the current set. Riot Games has rolled out a mix of buffs, nerfs, and champion reworks to shake up the meta one last time.

Enchanted Wilds Arrives August 26

Mark your calendars! The new set, Enchanted Wilds, goes live at the end of patch 17.9 on August 26. Players can look forward to a fresh theme, new champions, and the introduction of Wisps as the set's core mechanic. Riot has released a Dev Drop and a 60-second overview to give players a sneak peek at what's coming. The set also features some of the wildest 5-cost champions yet, promising exciting new strategies.

Shepherd Trait Gets a Boost

The Shepherd trait receives significant love in this patch, aiming to make the summon more impactful throughout the fight. Key changes include:

  • Mana cost reduced from 0/50 to 0/40, allowing more frequent casts.
  • AP per cast lowered from 15 to 10, but Tail Sweep damage increased to scale better late.
  • Summon Shield Duration reduced from 4s to 3s, but Tail Sweep damage now scales from 200/300/400 AP (up from 200/230/275).
  • Shepherd (7) Wave Damage increased from 220 AP to 300 AP, making the 7-piece bonus much more threatening.

Champion Reworks and Adjustments

Several champions are getting reworked or adjusted to create new carries and improve viability. Here's the breakdown:

Twisted Fate now has a gambling mechanic: rolling a 9 always grants gold regardless of star level, but rolling a 1 deals 15% max health true damage to himself. His damage range has been widened, with minimum damage lowered to 30/45/70/120 AP and maximum damage raised to 680/1020/1550/2650 AP, making high-rolls much more rewarding.

Gwen gets a buff to her Groove Threshold (from 40% to 50%) and primary target damage (now 155/235/440 AP), helping her cut above B-tier. Milio gains a 40% chance to cast an additional time at an extra target, with adjusted damage numbers. Meepsie undergoes a full rework, shifting from Magic Tank to Magic Fighter with a new spell based on her Champion Augment 'Big Bang'.

Lulu's Medallion now drops more gold (1/4/7), Maokai gains attack speed and Nova Selector damage, and Rhaast's spell duration is shortened but damage massively increased. Tahm Kench's Oracle gold per round is increased for even more economy. Finally, Zed joins the base champion roster with reduced health (1100), but his 'Invader Zed' augment is removed.

What This Means for Players

This patch is all about giving players fresh options before the new set. The Shepherd changes make the trait more rewarding for dedicated players, while champion reworks like Meepsie and Twisted Fate add high-risk, high-reward gameplay. Zed's inclusion in the base pool makes him more accessible, but his nerf balances his availability. As always, these adjustments are designed to keep the meta dynamic and fun.
