Welcome to Patch 18.2 for Teamfight Tactics! While the Enchanted Wilds set has been live for a bit, this patch marks the first major update since the mid-patch tweaks to 18.1. The dev team is prioritizing bug squashing and performance improvements, but they've also carved out time for meaningful gameplay changes. Expect to see more viable compositions beyond the usual reroll and Ahri strategies, plus some economic tweaks that make leveling to 8, 9, and 10 more accessible. As the patch notes humorously put it, "more gold in the bank, more chances to miss in your rolldown."
Cosmetics on the Road to Unreal Engine
The big headline for many players is the ongoing cosmetic conversion to Unreal Engine. Riot acknowledges the wait has been longer than expected and reassures that every cosmetic will eventually return, including fan favorites like Sugarcone Furyhorn. Starting in 18.2, players who own any cosmetic at a given rarity tier will gain access to all cosmetics of that rarity and below from pre-Enchanted Wilds sets. For example, owning a Mythic Chibi unlocks all Mythic and lower tacticians. This temporary measure will remain until the conversion is further along.
Each patch will now include a dedicated section listing newly converted cosmetics and what's coming next. The team is prioritizing based on popularity, rarity, and technical feasibility—aiming to deliver high-quality, bug-free content without performance hits. While the pace will accelerate over time, some cosmetics, like the Matcha Cuppy, might be among the last to arrive. Riot appreciates your patience and promises to keep the community updated as they work through the catalog.
Economy Adjustments: Smoother Leveling
Following the inflationary mechanics of the previous set, reaching late-game levels has felt harder than intended. To ease the transition, Riot is reducing the XP cost for levels 8, 9, and 10, and making combat Wisps slightly cheaper. These changes are designed to encourage players to press that XP button more often, knowing that while you can miss a rolldown, you can't miss the XP button. Here are the specific reductions:
- Level 7 to 8: 60 XP → 56 XP
- Level 8 to 9: 68 XP → 64 XP
- Level 9 to 10: 68 XP → 64 XP
Trait and Unit Changes: Shaking Up the Meta
Several traits are receiving significant adjustments in 18.2. Blackthorn, which was mostly used as a 2-piece with a sacrificial tank, is getting buffs at 4 and 6 to reward sacrificing casters and AD carries. Coven cashouts are being diversified, with Caitlyn copies now appearing at lower breakpoints and better rewards for harder-to-reach tiers. Fae's Golden Pixie breakpoints are lowered, making them easier to hit earlier. Hunter's damage amp duration is reduced from 4 to 3 seconds, aligning better with the fast-paced nature of TFT. Solar is getting an early-game buff but an overall nerf to its late-game dominance.
On the unit side, tier 1 Ravagers are receiving substantial buffs to remain relevant into the mid-game. Leona gets a compensation buff due to the Solar nerf, improving her mana and decaying resists. Veigar's tooltip is fixed to reflect his true AP gain—he was actually getting more than displayed. Tier 2 units like LeBlanc, Kayle, and Warwick are also being tuned, with Warwick's AD increased by 5, a significant boost for his attack-heavy kit. Tier 3 units Azir and Mama Beak are getting buffs to enable new reroll compositions, while Kha'Zix receives an AD buff to help him secure early kills.
These changes aim to open up the meta and give players more strategic options. Whether you're a fan of aggressive reroll strategies or prefer to scale into the late game, Patch 18.2 offers something for everyone. The full patch notes include detailed numbers and additional unit adjustments.
